RNU4-4P is a genomic pseudogene with strong sequence similarity to U4 small nuclear RNA genes[3]. U4 snRNA is an essential component of the major spliceosome complex, participating in pre-mRNA splicing together with U5 and U6 snRNAs[1][2]. However, pseudogenes like RNU4-4P are inactive genomic copies generated by reverse transcription and reintegration into the genome and are not transcribed into a functional RNA product[3]. Unlike functional U4 genes (e.g., RNU4-2), which are implicated in critical spliceosomal processes and diseases such as syndromic neurodevelopmental disorders[1][2], RNU4-4P has no known biological activity, disease association, or therapeutic relevance.
