RNU4-45P (RNA, U4 small nuclear 45, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene derived from the U4 small nuclear RNA gene family. Its sequence closely resembles the functional U4 snRNA genes, with nearly complete homology except for minor nucleotide differences[3]. Like other snRNA pseudogenes, it likely originated from the reverse transcription and genomic integration of U4 RNA[3]. Functional U4 snRNAs are essential for the major spliceosome, participating in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the tri-snRNP complex[1][2][5], but pseudogenes such as RNU4-45P are generally silent and do not produce functional RNA products[4][3]. RNU4-45P loci have no recognized biological activity, clinical relevance, or druggability. It should not be confused with the active RNU4-2 or U4 snRNAs, which are associated with rare neurodevelopmental disorders[2][6].
