Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U4 small nuclear 53, pseudogene (RNU4-53P)

Target
RNU4-53P
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene), Non-coding RNA, small nuclear RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU4-53P is annotated as a pseudogene of the U4 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. Pseudogenes are generally regarded as non-functional genomic elements derived from ancestral active genes, frequently carrying mutations that render them nonfunctional. While the functional U4 small nuclear RNAs (such as RNU4-2) are critical components of the major spliceosome and participate in pre-mRNA splicing, RNU4-53P is not known to produce a functional RNA product, does not encode a protein, and has no demonstrated biological or disease association. Consequently, it is not considered a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with it.
