Overview

RNU4ATAC14P stands for "RNA, U4atac small nuclear 14, pseudogene", which is a pseudogene of the U4atac small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. Pseudogenes like RNU4ATAC14P are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but typically lack the ability to encode functional products such as proteins or functional RNAs due to mutations, truncations, or lack of regulatory elements. They often arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition and usually do not participate in cellular processes or undergo active transcription. The functional U4atac snRNA (encoded by the RNU4ATAC gene, not its pseudogenes) is a component of the minor spliceosome involved in the splicing of U12-type introns in pre-mRNA, and pathogenic variants in the functional gene (RNU4ATAC) are associated with rare developmental disorders. However, RNU4ATAC14P is classified as a pseudogene; there is no evidence it produces a functional RNA or is implicated as a therapeutic target or disease gene. Its biological and clinical relevance is thus negligible unless future research identifies a regulatory role, which has not been reported in the scientific literature to date. RNU4ATAC14P is a pseudogene related to the U4atac snRNA gene. It does not encode a functional product or have known biological or clinical relevance. Pseudogenes are typically considered "genomic fossils" and not therapeutic targets.
