Overview

RNA, U4atac small nuclear 17, pseudogene (RNU4ATAC17P) is a non-coding RNA gene annotated as a pseudogene. It is similar in sequence to the functional U4atac small nuclear RNA, a component of the minor spliceosome that catalyzes U12-type intron removal in pre-mRNA. However, RNU4ATAC17P is predicted not to encode a functional RNA due to sequence disruptions or absence of promoter elements, often reflecting evolutionary duplication with loss of original function[1][5][8]. Pseudogenes like RNU4ATAC17P are generally non-functional, although some may play regulatory roles, such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or participating in gene expression modulation at the RNA level[7][9]. Currently, there is no evidence that RNU4ATAC17P is directly involved in disease, targeted by therapeutics, or has clinical significance as a biomarker.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; no drugs or interventions target this molecule

03

Biological functions

May function as a non-coding RNA, but not involved in catalysis, signal transduction, or known cellular pathwaysPseudogene transcripts in general may modulate gene expression by acting as RNA decoys or generating small RNAs, but there is no direct evidence for RNU4ATAC17P specifically[7][9]
04

Disease associations

None specific; no direct association with diseasesDysfunctional or mutated versions of related non-pseudogene U4atac snRNAs are associated with rare developmental diseases (e.g., Taybi-Linder syndrome, Roifman syndrome, Lowry-Wood syndrome) but not the pseudogene[2]
