RNA, U5F small nuclear 8, pseudogene (RNU5F-8P) is a human gene annotated as a pseudogene for U5 small nuclear RNA, part of the small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family typically involved in the spliceosome complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][4][5]. The U5 family members are core functional components of the major spliceosome, but RNU5F-8P itself is annotated as a pseudogene and is not known to produce a functional RNA or protein product[1][4][5]. Pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional genomic loci related to canonical, active gene(s) through duplication or retrotransposition and lack known biological function, established drug interactions, or disease associations. There is no evidence that RNU5F-8P is a therapeutic target, nor does it have validated clinical, biomarker, or pharmacological relevance[1][4][5]. Some pseudogenes within the snRNA family may, on rare occasions, be shown to have a role in disease, but no such evidence exists for RNU5F-8P as of the latest literature[1][3].
