RNU6-1006P is a pseudogene copying part of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. The U6 snRNA itself is a critical, highly conserved component of the spliceosome that catalyzes intron removal from precursor mRNA in the nucleus[1][3][11]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-1006P does not produce a functional transcript[5][7]. Like other pseudogenes, segments of its sequence are homologous to its parent gene, but it carries disabling mutations or is not expressed as a functional RNA[4][5].
