Overview

RNU6-1007P is a genomic DNA sequence classified as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. Small nuclear RNA U6 (snRNA U6) is an essential non-coding RNA that forms part of the spliceosome, where it catalyzes removal of introns from pre-mRNA during splicing[1][3]. However, pseudogenes—including RNU6-1007P—are nonfunctional DNA sequences derived from once-functional genes through mutation, retrotransposition, or duplication events in evolution[4][5]. These U6-derived pseudogenes are neither transcribed into functional snRNA nor participate in RNA splicing or any other biological pathway, and thus have no recognized physiological, pathological, or drug target role. The human genome hosts many U6 snRNA pseudogenes, reflecting the evolutionary importance of the functional U6 snRNA but not conferring function to the pseudogene copies[3][4][5].
