Overview

RNU6-1018P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 1018, pseudogene) is classified as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically lack the capacity to encode proteins or functional RNA due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements[6]. U6 snRNAs themselves play a critical role in the spliceosome machinery, mediating pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][3], but pseudogenes like RNU6-1018P are considered non-functional and do not participate in those processes[4][5]. There is no evidence to suggest any physiological, pathological, or drug interaction roles for RNU6-1018P. Like other small nuclear RNA pseudogenes, it is best understood as a genomic remnant of an ancestral U6 RNA gene copy, and is not a therapeutic target nor associated with disease, function, or direct biomarker utility[4][5][6].
