Overview

RNU6-1020P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 1020, pseudogene) is a member of a large family of U6 snRNA pseudogenes found throughout the human genome[2][7]. U6 snRNA is a key component of the spliceosome, a ribonucleoprotein complex essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][3]. However, RNU6-1020P is classified as a pseudogene, which means it is a non-functional genomic sequence derived from U6 snRNA genes and does not encode an active RNA product[2][7]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1020P result from evolutionary processes such as retrotransposition events and are characterized by sequence homology to functional genes but lack regulatory elements or functional transcripts[2][5]. There is no evidence that RNU6-1020P is involved in any cellular processes, disease roles, drug interactions, or serves as a biomarker or therapeutic target[2][7]. Its main relevance is as a marker of genome evolution and retrotransposition activity in mammals[2].
