RNA, U6 small nuclear 1021, pseudogene (RNU6-1021P) is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. U6 snRNA is itself an essential non-coding RNA that functions in the major spliceosome complex and mediates pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus[3]. However, the RNU6-1021P pseudogene is a non-functional copy that arose through retrotransposition or other duplicative events, contains sequence defects, and is not transcribed to functional RNA or involved in splicing[4][5]. Numerous U6 snRNA pseudogenes exist throughout the vertebrate genome, reflecting genome evolution and retrotransposon activity, but these pseudogenes have no direct coding or catalytic functions, nor are they known to serve as therapeutic targets or biomarkers at present[4][5].
