Overview

**RNU6-1034P** is a processed *pseudogene* found in the human genome, derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family[7][4]. The parental U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, non-coding RNA that plays a fundamental catalytic role in the spliceosome, the large molecular complex responsible for excising introns from pre-mRNA during the splicing process in all eukaryotes[3][5]. However, RNU6-1034P does not code for a functional RNA molecule. It was likely generated by *retrotransposition*, a process wherein a reverse-transcribed copy of an RNA (typically involving the LINE-1 retrotransposition machinery) gets inserted into the genome as a new, non-functional locus, lacking regulatory promoter elements and often carrying mutations and truncations[9][1][6]. U6 snRNA-derived pseudogenes, like RNU6-1034P, are common in vertebrate genomes and can serve as historical markers of retrotransposition activity but do not participate in spliceosomal or other significant biological processes[9][1]. There is no evidence this pseudogene contributes to cell biology, is involved in disease, or serves as a drug target.
