RNA, U6 small nuclear 1036, pseudogene (RNU6-1036P)

Target
RNU6-1036P
Molecular classification
Other, Non-coding RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1036P represents a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[2]. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, essential component of the spliceosome, involved in catalyzing the excision of introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic nuclei[1][3]. However, RNU6-1036P, like other U6 pseudogenes, is not transcribed into a functional RNA product[4]. Such pseudogenes are generated by retrotransposition mechanisms (predominantly LINE-1 mediated)[4], and are considered functionless genomic relics that do not encode proteins nor contribute to spliceosome assembly or function. Their presence in the genome reflects the evolutionary history and retrotranspositional activity, but they are not known to be involved in disease, cell signaling, or as pharmacologic targets[4][5]. There is nothing incorrect about the entry itself, but it should not be interpreted as a functional therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or regulator. It is best classified as a non-coding RNA pseudogene with no direct clinical, pharmacological, or disease relevance.
