RNA, U6 small nuclear 1044, pseudogene (RNU6-1044P) is a pseudogene and part of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[1]. While canonical U6 snRNA genes play a key role in the splicing of pre-mRNA within the spliceosome (a complex that removes introns from newly synthesized RNA transcripts)[3][5], pseudogenes such as RNU6-1044P do not produce functional U6 snRNA molecules and are considered non-coding, transcriptionally inactive, or functionally redundant backups[1][3]. Many U6 pseudogenes exist in the human genome, reflecting the evolutionary importance of the U6 RNA. There is no evidence RNU6-1044P encodes a protein or acts as a therapeutic target, nor are there documented disease associations for this specific pseudogene[1]. Some pseudogenes can exert regulatory influences in specific cellular contexts as non-coding RNAs, but this has not been shown for RNU6-1044P[4].
