Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1053, pseudogene (RNU6-1053P)

Target
RNU6-1053P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1053P is a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene, found on human chromosome 4. Like other snRNA pseudogenes, it arises from the retrotransposition of an RNA intermediate, often via LINE-1 (L1) machinery, and does not encode a functional product. U6 pseudogenes, including RNU6-1053P, can serve as useful markers in genomics to assess the dynamics of retrotransposition activity in the genome, but they do not have canonical gene function. There is no current evidence that RNU6-1053P is expressed or has clinical significance. Key Points: - RNU6-1053P is not a protein-coding gene, not a functional snRNA, and not a therapeutic target. - It is a genomic marker for studies of retrotransposition, with no known role in disease or therapy. - No known aliases beyond those given, and no implications for drugs or biomarkers in patient care.

Other names
RNU6-1053PRNA, U6 small nuclear 1053, pseudogene
02

Mechanism of action

None (not a drug target)

03

Biological functions

Not known to have a direct biological function; pseudogenes generally do not encode active molecules, although some may participate in regulatory roles or genome evolution. The parental functional U6 snRNA is involved in the spliceosome and pre-mRNA splicing, but the pseudogene itself lacks this activity
04

Disease associations

None established for this pseudogene; although some pseudogenes play regulatory roles in disease, there is no evidence for disease association for RNU6-1053P specifically
