RNA, U6 small nuclear 106, pseudogene (RNU6-106P)

Target
RNU6-106P
Molecular classification
pseudogene, small nuclear RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 106, pseudogene (RNU6-106P) is a non-functional segment of DNA resembling the gene for U6 small nuclear RNA but contains disabling mutations that prevent it from functioning as a normal U6 RNA gene[3][6]. U6 small nuclear RNAs are important RNA components of the spliceosome complex involved in mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-106P do not contribute to this function. Most pseudogenes are considered genetic relics, although recent studies suggest some may play regulatory roles as non-coding RNA transcripts, including competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanisms, antisense interactions, or modulation of epigenetic states[4][5]. There is no evidence that RNU6-106P itself is transcribed or plays a functional role.

Biological functions

May have regulatory non-coding RNA function in gene regulation if transcribed, per recent research on pseudogene-expressed non-coding RNAs[4][5].No specific biological function reported for RNU6-106P itself.
03

Disease associations

No direct association of RNU6-106P with disease reported.Other pseudogenes have been implicated in cancer via regulatory functions, but no evidence for RNU6-106P specifically[5].
