Overview

RNU6-1067P, or "RNA, U6 small nuclear 1067, pseudogene," is a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. Unlike its functional parent, U6 snRNA, which is an essential and highly conserved component of the spliceosome mediating pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells, RNU6-1067P lacks the capacity to encode a functional RNA or protein and shows characteristics typical of processed pseudogenes—such as transcriptional inactivity and sequence mutations. The U6 snRNA gene family is notable for having many pseudogene copies in the vertebrate genome, reflecting the evolutionary importance and frequent retrotransposition of these sequences. While some pseudogenes have reported regulatory roles (e.g., miRNA sponging, regulation of parental genes), there is currently no evidence that RNU6-1067P is expressed, functional, or involved in disease biology. It is not a therapeutic target, nor does it have recognized clinical or pharmacological relevance. If you require more information on the functional U6 snRNA or other pseudogenes with established roles, please specify.

Biological functions

None directly established for this pseudogeneGeneral pseudogene functions: Possible modulation of gene expression via lncRNA-related mechanisms (e.g., microRNA sponging, regulation of parental gene expression) in theory

Disease associations

None specifically reported for RNU6-1067PMore generally, pseudogenes can play roles in chromatin remodeling, acting as molecular decoys, sponging miRNAs, and gene regulation, but no evidence links this specific pseudogene to disease
