Overview

RNU6-1071P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 1071, pseudogene) is a member of a family of genomic loci in humans that represent pseudogenes of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene[4][5]. Pseudogenes are sequences with high homology to functional genes but are generally considered non-functional; they are not expressed or do not produce functional RNA or protein products. Human U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, where it participates in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the U6 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein complex (U6 snRNP)[1][3]. However, RNU6-1071P itself is not known to produce functional snRNA or participate in the spliceosome. Instead, it is a non-functional copy (pseudogene) that likely arose from retrotransposition or genomic duplication events[5]. There is no evidence that this pseudogene acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical drug target. There are also no known associated biological functions, disease roles, interacting drugs, or mechanisms of action. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-1071P are common in the genome and sometimes serve as evolutionary records of gene duplication and retrotransposition, but most do not contribute to cellular function[5].
