Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, U6 small nuclear 1078, pseudogene (RNU6-1078P) is a human locus annotated as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family[1][2]. U6 snRNAs are essential components of the spliceosome and play a key role in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-1078P are typically non-functional and do not produce active snRNA molecules[1][3][5]. Pseudogenes arise through duplication or retrotransposition events and often retain sequence similarity to their parental gene but are generally not transcribed or translated into functional molecules. There is no evidence indicating RNU6-1078P has a role in disease, biological function, or as a therapeutic target[1][2][3]. Functional U6 snRNA is a highly conserved non-coding RNA required for spliceosome activity, critical for excising introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes[3][5]. The U6 snRNA forms part of snRNP complexes and is involved in the catalytic steps of RNA splicing. Multiple U6-related pseudogenes exist in the human genome, reflecting repeated duplication events, but these pseudogenes generally do not participate in splicing[3][7].
no mechanism—this locus does not encode a functional product
