RNU6-1080P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Noncoding RNA-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1080P is a pseudogene copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. The functional U6 snRNA is a highly conserved noncoding RNA essential for the spliceosome, the machinery responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA during mRNA processing in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. RNU6-1080P, like other U6 snRNA pseudogenes, arose by retrotransposon-mediated duplication events (not by direct gene function)[4]. These copies are prevalent in vertebrate genomes, but they are generally non-functional: they do not contribute to splicing or other cellular activities. Their presence is an indicator of historical retrotransposition activity, and they may be used in genomics as evolutionary markers but have no established role as drug targets, biomarkers, or disease-associated entities[2][4].

No therapeutic mechanism of action as there are no drugs or interventions targeting RNU6-1080P.

03

Biological functions

As a pseudogene, RNU6-1080P has no known biological function; functional U6 snRNA is involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but its pseudogenes do not participate in these processes
