Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1100, pseudogene (RNU6-1100P) is a human pseudogene mapped to chromosome 1 (GRCh38:CM000663.2, reverse strand, positions 157,784–157,887)[1][3][7]. It is classified as a processed pseudogene derived from a parental U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene[2][9]. The U6 snRNA genes are components of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells; however, pseudogenes like RNU6-1100P are typically non-functional and lack promoter elements or intact sequences necessary for productive transcription or mature snRNA function[2]. Such pseudogenes are often generated through LINE-1 (L1)-mediated retrotransposition, where snRNA fragments are reverse transcribed and inserted elsewhere in the genome, contributing to genomic diversity rather than direct biological activity[2]. There is no evidence that RNU6-1100P acts as a therapeutic target or is involved in drug response, nor is it recognized as a clinical biomarker or related to adverse safety issues[9]. While some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression indirectly or act as decoys for microRNAs, no such function has been specifically attributed to RNU6-1100P. Its presence primarily reflects historical genomic events rather than an active or essential molecular role in health or disease[2][4][9].
