Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, U6 small nuclear 112, pseudogene (RNU6-112P) is a member of the large family of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogenes found throughout vertebrate genomes[1][3]. U6 snRNA itself is a highly conserved, uridine-rich non-coding RNA that is essential for the catalytic activity of the spliceosome, driving intron removal during pre-mRNA splicing[1][2][3]. However, RNU6-112P is designated as a *pseudogene*: it is genetically similar to the functional U6 snRNA gene but does not encode a functional RNA nor participate in spliceosome formation or RNA processing. U6 pseudogenes are scattered throughout the human genome, often created by retrotransposition or template switching events, and may contribute to genomic architecture but do not contribute to cellular function, disease mechanisms, or serve as drug targets[3][4]. There is no evidence that RNU6-112P has a biological function, disease association, or drug interaction. The designation "RNA, U6 small nuclear 112, pseudogene" is correct for this specific locus, but it should not be confused with the active U6 snRNA (RNU6-1), which is a spliceosomal RNA, nor considered a bona fide therapeutic target.
