U6 snRNA normally functions as a core component of the spliceosome, the large ribonucleoprotein complex that catalyzes the removal of introns from pre-messenger RNA in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. However, RNU6-1138P is annotated as a pseudogene and is therefore presumed to lack function—it does not produce a functional RNA or protein product[2][5][6]. The human genome contains numerous snRNA pseudogenes, which are typically unexpressed and have no known biological or disease relevance[6].
