Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Small nuclear RNA-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1140P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 1140, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene affiliated with the U6 small nuclear RNA family. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but typically lack protein-coding ability or canonical biological activity. The ancestral U6 snRNA provides a crucial component for spliceosomal activity (splicing pre-mRNA) in eukaryotes, but this pseudogene does not participate in that function. Some pseudogenes may sporadically produce non-coding RNA transcripts with possible, but largely unestablished, regulatory activity. There is no evidence of RNU6-1140P functioning as a molecular target, nor is it involved in drug response or disease biology as an independent entity.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; no drugs target this pseudogene

03

Biological functions

If transcribed, possible roles as a source for non-coding RNA with regulatory potentialRarely, pseudogene transcripts may participate in regulatory networks by acting as competing endogenous RNAs or serving as sources of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs)Most pseudogenes, including this one, are not known to have established biological roles
04

Disease associations

None for RNU6-1140P specifically. However, the U6 snRNA gene family and some pseudogene-derived lncRNAs have been investigated for possible involvement in cancer and other diseases via regulatory mechanismsNo direct association with human disease is reported for this particular pseudogene
05

Safety considerations

None reported. As a pseudogene, it lacks direct therapeutic or diagnostic utility
06

Biomarkers

None known.RNU6-1140P is not established as a biomarker for disease or therapeutic response
