RNU6-1189P represents a pseudogene copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene, which is a highly conserved noncoding RNA essential to the spliceosome complex that is responsible for excising introns from pre-mRNA through RNA splicing[1][5]. Pseudogenes are generally considered nonfunctional duplicates or remnants of gene sequences; however, some are transcribed and may participate in the regulation of gene expression by various mechanisms such as acting as microRNA decoys or sources of small interfering RNAs[2][3]. There is no evidence that RNU6-1189P itself encodes a functional RNA or protein, nor is it recognized as a therapeutic or diagnostic target. It does not bind drugs or serve as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Pseudogenes as a class are increasingly being investigated for possible roles in gene regulation or as disease markers, but there is no specific evidence for such a role for RNU6-1189P.
