U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, which is responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA during RNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[3][1]. However, RNU6-1191P itself is a pseudogene, meaning it resembles a functional gene but is non-coding and does not produce a functional product[2][4]. Pseudogenes can occasionally be transcribed, but they are generally not considered to have a direct biological function, are not classified as therapeutic targets (such as receptors or enzymes), and are typically not involved in drug interactions or clinical biomarker use[4]. The presence of many U6-derived pseudogenes in vertebrate genomes reflects the evolutionary importance of the U6 snRNA but does not confer independent biological roles to the pseudogenes themselves[3].
