01

Overview

RNU6-12P is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. U6 small nuclear RNA itself is a core component of the spliceosome, required for the removal of pre-mRNA introns by catalyzing splicing activity through complex RNA-RNA and RNA-protein interactions. However, RNU6-12P does not encode a functional product and is thought to be an evolutionary remnant with no known biological function. Pseudogenes like RNU6-12P are common in vertebrate genomes, particularly among small nuclear RNA families, and may serve as evolutionary markers of retrotransposition dynamics rather than active biological agents. The presence of an extensive collection of U6-derived pseudogenes in the genome highlights the evolutionary importance of U6 snRNA, but these pseudogenes themselves are not functional or clinically relevant targets for pharmacological modulation.
