Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1209, pseudogene (RNU6-1209P)

Target
RNU6-1209P
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene; non-coding RNA derivative of small nuclear RNA)
01

Overview

RNU6-1209P is a human pseudogene representing a non-functional copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene. U6 snRNA is a critical component of the spliceosome, involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-1209P are generally non-coding and do not produce a functional RNA or protein. Most pseudogenes are considered genomic fossils and are widely distributed across vertebrate genomes, often arising from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. While some pseudogenes have gained regulatory roles, there is no published evidence that RNU6-1209P is functional or implicated in disease.

Other names

02

Biological functions

Pseudogenes generally do not have direct biological functions; however, some pseudogenes can regulate their parental genes in cis or trans by acting as miRNA decoys, sources of endogenous siRNAs, competitors for RNA binding proteins, or generators of lncRNAs, but there is no evidence for specific biological function for RNU6-1209P
03

Disease associations

Other (no known disease association for RNU6-1209P specifically; some pseudogenes broadly can be involved in disease through regulatory mechanisms, but there is no published role for this particular pseudogene in cancer or other diseases)
