RNA, U6 small nuclear 1211, pseudogene (RNU6-1211P)

Target
RNU6-1211P
Molecular classification
Other, processed pseudogene, non-coding RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1211P encodes a non-functional copy (pseudogene) of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene, which originally participates in RNA splicing in the spliceosome as part of the U6 snRNA. Pseudogenes such as this are prevalent in vertebrate genomes and arise mainly by retrotransposition (often via the LINE/L1 element machinery). Unlike the functional U6 snRNA, RNU6-1211P does not encode an active RNA and is not involved in biological processes or disease. Its existence reflects genomic evolution and retrotranspositional activity, but it lacks therapeutic relevance[2][3][5]. If you need information about the functional U6 small nuclear RNA, it is a catalytic RNA within the spliceosome important for pre-mRNA splicing[1][3]. The pseudogene copy, however, is not relevant in therapeutic or biomarker contexts.
