U6 snRNA is essential for the catalytic activity of the spliceosome, which excises introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes[3][1][5]. However, RNU6-1223P itself does not produce a functional RNA molecule, does not participate in splicing, and is not known to encode a protein or have a direct biological function[5][7]. Like other U6 snRNA pseudogenes, it is a genomic relic derived from retrotransposition events, likely via LINE-1-mediated mechanisms, and it is not considered a drug target or functional regulatory RNA at this time[5]. There is no current evidence linking this pseudogene specifically to disease or therapeutic applications.
