Overview

RNU6-1230P is a processed pseudogene belonging to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved component of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. The human genome contains many U6 snRNA pseudogenes, including RNU6-1230P, formed by retrotransposition events primarily mediated by LINE-1 (L1) elements[4]. These pseudogenes are non-functional: they are typically not transcribed into stable RNAs and do not participate in spliceosome assembly or catalysis. Instead, they serve as genomic markers of retrotransposition activity and the evolutionary history of snRNA genes[4][5]. There is no evidence that RNU6-1230P or other U6 pseudogenes are involved in disease processes or are actionable drug targets.
