RNA, U6 small nuclear 1233, pseudogene (RNU6-1233P)

Target
RNU6-1233P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA, Small nuclear RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1233P is a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene, part of a family of non-coding RNAs that play a central role in the splicing of pre-mRNA by assembling into the spliceosome complex[1][3][4][5]. U6 snRNA is highly conserved and essential for eukaryotic gene expression, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-1233P are formed through retrotransposon-mediated genomic duplication and mutation, resulting in genetic elements that resemble the original gene but lack functional activity[4]. These pseudogenes may serve as evolutionary markers for retrotransposon activity but are not biologically active and do not act as therapeutic targets or disease biomarkers[4][5].

02

Mechanism of action

None (not a druggable target, does not have a mechanism of action)

03

Biological functions

No known biological function (as a pseudogene)The parent gene, U6 snRNA, is involved in pre-mRNA splicing[3][4][5], but the pseudogene does not contribute to this function.
04

Disease associations

None known. Pseudogenes do not encode proteins or functional RNAs and are not implicated in disease processes.
