RNA, U6 small nuclear 1255, pseudogene (RNU6-1255P) is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, necessary for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[3][5]. However, RNU6-1255P does not code for a corresponding functional RNA or protein but is instead one of many genomic pseudogenes resulting from retrotransposition events[1][4]. As such, it does not play an active biological role, is not considered a drug target or disease marker, and lacks molecular interactions characteristic of functional molecules. - Pseudogenes such as RNU6-1255P are common for snRNAs, arising via mechanisms such as L1-mediated reverse transcription; while they serve as records of evolutionary genome dynamics, they have no current known biomolecular function or implication for pharmacology[4]. - Functional U6 snRNA (not the pseudogene) forms part of the spliceosome and is critical for the catalysis of intron removal from pre-mRNA[3][5].
