RNA, U6 small nuclear 1258, pseudogene (RNU6-1258P) is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome that originated from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. Functional copies of U6 snRNA are critical for the spliceosomal processing of introns in pre-mRNA and are deeply conserved across eukaryotes[1][3]. The U6 snRNA, as part of the spliceosome, is essential for the excision of introns, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-1258P do not contribute to biological splicing activity and are not generally expressed or translated into functional molecules. Pseudogenes are considered remnants derived from functional genes, often without a discernible active role, and RNU6-1258P is annotated as such[5].
