Overview

RNU6-1260P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 1260, pseudogene) is a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family in humans[1][4]. As a pseudogene, it is a nonfunctional genetic element derived from the U6 snRNA gene, which itself is an essential component of the spliceosome complex involved in the removal of introns from pre-mRNA during RNA splicing in eukaryotes[5][3]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1260P typically arise from retrotransposition or gene duplication events but do not produce functional RNA or protein products[2]. There is no evidence to suggest that RNU6-1260P has a direct biological function or disease association, nor is it considered a therapeutic target. Its primary scientific relevance is as a genomic marker of the evolutionary history and retrotranspositional dynamics of non-coding RNA genes[2][3][1].
