Target
RNU6-1280P
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene, Noncoding RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1280P is a pseudogene copy of the gene for U6 small nuclear RNA, generated through genomic duplication or retrotransposition events. Unlike the parental U6 small nuclear RNA gene, which encodes a critical RNA component of the spliceosome essential for pre-mRNA splicing, this pseudogene does not produce a functional RNA molecule and lacks biological activity. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-1280P are common in the human genome and are thought to arise through errors in gene duplication or retrotransposition mediated by LINE-1 (L1) elements. These sequences can serve as evolutionary footprints of genome dynamics but are not known to be expressed or to act as therapeutic or disease-relevant targets in their own right. In summary, RNU6-1280P is a non-functional genomic element, not a therapeutic or research target, with no known direct biological, pathological, or pharmacological role.
