Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1283, pseudogene (RNU6-1283P) is a human pseudogene classified as a non-coding RNA that resembles U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), a core component of the spliceosome essential for pre-mRNA splicing[1][3][5][7][11]. Unlike functional U6 snRNA genes, this pseudogene does not produce a functional RNA product and is generally thought to have no protein-coding potential[1][5][7]. There is no evidence supporting its role as a direct drug target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter. However, pseudogenes, in general, can sometimes regulate their parental genes through mechanisms such as serving as miRNA decoys, generating small interfering RNAs, or acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs); some pseudogenes are also implicated in disease processes through these regulatory functions, but there are no direct data linking RNU6-1283P to these effects or to any human disease so far[4][5].
