RNU6-1299P, also known as RNA, U6 small nuclear 1299, pseudogene, is a human gene classified as a processed pseudogene rather than a functional protein-coding or regulatory RNA gene[1][5][11]. It is a genomic sequence derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family, specifically the U6 snRNA, which is itself involved in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome complex in its functional (non-pseudogene) forms. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1299P originate through mechanisms such as retrotransposition, notably via LINE-1 (L1) elements, resulting in copies of snRNA genes being inserted elsewhere in the genome without the regulatory elements needed for normal expression or function[2]. As a pseudogene, RNU6-1299P does not produce a functional RNA or protein, does not encode a receptor or enzyme, and there is no evidence of it being a therapeutic target or interacting directly with drugs[1][5][2]. While some pseudogenes can incidentally participate in the regulation of gene expression through mechanisms like competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) or antisense regulation, no such function has been reported for RNU6-1299P[4][5]. It is located on chromosome 6q21 (6:107133071-107133170)[3][9].
