Target
RNU6-1309P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA, Processed pseudogene, Small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1309P is a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically nonfunctional; they arise mainly via reverse transcription and integration of RNA transcripts back into the genome. U6 small nuclear RNA is an essential RNA component of the spliceosome, required for the removal of introns from precursor mRNA by splicing[3][7]. The pseudogenes of U6, including RNU6-1309P, do not function in mRNA processing, do not appear to have roles in normal physiology or disease, and are not therapeutic targets. Their presence is a marker of retrotransposition activity in genomes but has no known direct clinical, pharmacological, or mechanistic action[1][5].
