Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1316, pseudogene (RNU6-1316P) is a pseudogene corresponding to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), a crucial component of the spliceosomal machinery responsible for the removal of introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells[1][5]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1316P are nonfunctional genomic elements typically derived from duplication or retrotransposition events of functional genes or RNAs, and they usually lack protein-coding potential or direct biological function[3][4]. Although a minority of pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects—such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or producing small RNAs that influence gene regulation—most, including RNU6-1316P, do not fulfill the criteria of therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or transporters[4]. There is no evidence implicating RNU6-1316P in human disease, drug interactions, therapeutic mechanisms, use as a biomarker, or safety concerns. The canonical, functional form of U6 snRNA participates directly in spliceosome activity[1][5], but its pseudogenes, including RNU6-1316P, are not known to retain such functions[3].
