Overview

RNU6-148P encodes a non-coding RNA sequence classified as a **pseudogene** related to the small nuclear RNA U6 family, one of the core RNA components of the spliceosome complex[2][3]. Like most U6 pseudogenes, RNU6-148P is believed to be a non-functional, non-expressed genetic element without a known role in **RNA splicing** or other cellular processes. The canonical, functional U6 snRNA is crucial for splice site recognition and catalysis during pre-mRNA splicing, but the U6 pseudogenes, including RNU6-148P, are not generally transcribed and do not give rise to functional snRNPs[2][3][5]. The vast majority of such pseudogenes are regarded as genomic relics from gene duplication events and do not serve as receptors, enzymes, or other typical molecular drug targets[2]. RNU6-148P is not a receptor, enzyme, or any other class of canonical drug target. It is considered a *pseudogene*, which by definition typically lacks biological activity. No evidence supports its use as a biomarker, disease marker, or drug target[2][3][4]. Its designation as a pseudogene indicates that it is not expected to encode a functional snRNA or protein, nor to directly participate in spliceosome assembly or function.
