It resembles the sequence of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which is integral to the spliceosome complex, but has accumulated mutations, truncations, or lacks essential regulatory regions rendering it non-functional[1][2]. As a pseudogene, it does not produce a functional small nuclear RNA or protein and is not involved in canonical snRNA-mediated processes. While some pseudogenes have regulatory roles – such as acting as miRNA sponges in competitive endogenous RNA networks and influencing gene expression – most remain biologically inert, and there is no substantive evidence of RNU6-156P playing a specific role in physiology or disease[1][2][3]. Consequently, it is not considered a therapeutic target, nor is it directly involved in any known drug mechanisms or biomarker profiles.
