Overview

RNU6-171P is a pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, one of many non-functional copies scattered throughout the vertebrate genome as a result of retrotransposon-mediated duplication events[5][3][4]. U6 snRNA itself is a crucial component of the spliceosome in eukaryotic cells, essential for the removal of introns from pre-mRNA during RNA splicing[1][3]. However, pseudogenes like RNU6-171P do not produce active RNA molecules or proteins, and generally have no biological activity or disease relevance except potentially in genome structure or regulation of parental gene expression. The occurrence of numerous U6 snRNA pseudogenes in the genome is an indicator of the gene's evolutionary significance, but they are not studied as therapeutic targets[3][5].

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, it does not encode an active molecule)Possible regulatory impact through non-coding RNA abundance or genome structure, but no direct biological function established
04

Disease associations

OtherNo direct disease association for RNU6-171P. Functional U6 snRNA has indirect roles in cancer and other diseases, but pseudogenes are not usually implicated unless affecting regulation
