RNU6-180P is a human pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. The functional U6 snRNA is an essential catalytic RNA in the spliceosome, driving pre-mRNA splicing through coordination of RNA and protein complexes in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. The U6 snRNA is highly conserved and present in multiple genomic copies, including many non-functional pseudogenes such as RNU6-180P[3]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-180P do not encode functional RNA or protein products and do not participate directly in cellular processes. Although some pseudogenes, when transcribed as long non-coding RNAs, can exert regulatory functions in the cell (such as miRNA sponging or epigenetic effects), there are no published reports linking RNU6-180P to such biological activity or disease roles[2][6]. Thus, RNU6-180P remains annotated as a non-functional genetic element in current databases, without evidence of relevance as a drug target or clinical biomarker.
