RNA, U6 small nuclear 187, pseudogene (RNU6-187P)

Target
RNU6-187P
Molecular classification
Other (Processed pseudogene), Noncoding RNA-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-187P is a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA family, present in the human genome[2][6][7]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-187P do not encode functional RNA but are instead genomic remnants of RNA-mediated retrotransposition processes involving U6 snRNA and LINE-1 elements[1][7]. RNU6-187P is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA)[2][6][7]. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, essential component of the spliceosome—the RNA-protein complex responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes[3][5]. The human genome contains numerous pseudogenes of U6 snRNA, formed through LINE-1 retrotransposition mechanisms[1][7]. While functional U6 snRNA is critical for mRNA splicing[3][5], pseudogenes like RNU6-187P are non-functional and have no known biological activity or direct therapeutic relevance[2][6][7]. Their presence is mainly significant as genomic records of past retrotranspositional activity[7].

Other names
RNU6-187PRNA, U6 small nuclear 187, pseudogene
02

Mechanism of action

None applicable. Pseudogene status means there are no mechanisms of action relevant for drug targeting

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, RNU6-187P does not have active biological roles)
04

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes like RNU6-187P have been used as markers for retrotransposition activity, but they do not directly contribute to diseases)
05

Safety considerations

None relevant for therapy, as this is not a drug target
06

Interacting drugs

None. No drugs target RNU6-187P, as it is not a functional receptor, enzyme, or protein
07

Biomarkers

Retrotransposition marker (pseudogenes such as RNU6-187P can be used as genomic markers reflecting LINE-1 activity or retrotransposition events in the genome)
