Pseudogenes such as RNU6-187P do not encode functional RNA but are instead genomic remnants of RNA-mediated retrotransposition processes involving U6 snRNA and LINE-1 elements[1][7]. RNU6-187P is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA)[2][6][7]. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, essential component of the spliceosome—the RNA-protein complex responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes[3][5]. The human genome contains numerous pseudogenes of U6 snRNA, formed through LINE-1 retrotransposition mechanisms[1][7]. While functional U6 snRNA is critical for mRNA splicing[3][5], pseudogenes like RNU6-187P are non-functional and have no known biological activity or direct therapeutic relevance[2][6][7]. Their presence is mainly significant as genomic records of past retrotranspositional activity[7].
