Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 19, pseudogene (RNU6-19P) is a pseudogene annotation derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. U6 snRNA plays an essential role in the catalytic core of the spliceosome, a large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for removing introns from precursor messenger RNA via splicing[1]. However, RNU6-19P itself is classified as a processed pseudogene—meaning it is a non-functional, RNA-derived genomic sequence that does not encode a functional product[5]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-19P arise from retrotransposition events and are essentially genomic "fossils" of active genes[5]. While the canonical U6 snRNA has well-defined roles in RNA splicing and interactions in the spliceosome, a pseudogene form like RNU6-19P lacks transcriptional activity, is not known to participate in biological processes, and is not considered a therapeutic target[5]. No evidence supports a functional role for RNU6-19P in disease, drug interactions, or as a biomarker; its clinical and molecular significance is limited to being a marker for retrotransposition dynamics in genomics studies[5]. The inclusion of RNU6-19P as a "target" would be incorrect—the molecule is not an active RNA, protein, receptor, or enzyme, but a genome remnant of the U6 snRNA gene family, and should not be considered a therapeutic target or biomarker.
