RNA, U6 small nuclear 204, pseudogene (RNU6-204P) is a classified pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family[5]. U6 snRNA is a critical component of the spliceosome complex responsible for excising introns from pre-mRNA during RNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-204P do not encode a functional product[1][3][5]. Pseudogenes arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and are generally non-functional due to mutations or truncations that disrupt the original gene's ability to produce a working RNA or protein[2][5]. Although historically considered genomic "junk," some pseudogenes can have regulatory influence on gene expression—such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or producing regulatory noncoding RNAs in specific contexts[2]. However, there is currently no evidence that RNU6-204P acts as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or has any safety concerns or disease links. It is classified as a noncoding RNA pseudogene and maintains relevance mainly as a genomic feature rather than a functional biological or therapeutic agent[5].
