RNU6-214P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 214, pseudogene) is a pseudogene member of the large U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. U6 snRNAs are critical components of the spliceosome, the macromolecular machine responsible for excising introns from pre-mRNA in the eukaryotic nucleus. However, RNU6-214P is classified as a pseudogene; it is a non-coding RNA sequence that resembles the functional U6 snRNA gene but is typically non-functional and not transcribed or not processed into a functional RNA product[3][4]. Pseudogenes often arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and may retain sequence homology with functional genes but lack regulatory elements or possess disabling mutations preventing active function. While functional U6 snRNA plays an essential role in splicing as part of the major spliceosomal complex[1][2], pseudogenes like RNU6-214P do not have a known biological function or therapeutic relevance. There is no evidence RNU6-214P is involved in disease, is a therapeutic target, or interacts with drugs. Its presence is primarily noted as a vestige of genome evolution and the high redundancy of U6 snRNA genes and pseudogenes in the human genome[2][3][4].
