RNA, U6 small nuclear 217, pseudogene (RNU6-217P) is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, non-coding small nuclear RNA that is a functional component of the spliceosome, essential for catalyzing the excision of introns from pre-mRNA during RNA splicing[1][3][5]. However, RNU6-217P itself is a pseudogene: a non-functional, often intronless genomic sequence generated via retrotransposition and lacking the necessary regulatory elements or sequence integrity to produce functional RNA or protein products[5]. Such pseudogenes are evolutionary relics, abundant in vertebrate genomes, and do not encode active biomolecules or play direct roles as therapeutic targets, disease genes, or biomarkers. There is no evidence that RNU6-217P participates in biological processes or disease, nor are there any drugs or known safety concerns related to this sequence[5].
