RNA, U6 small nuclear 226, pseudogene (RNU6-226P) refers to a pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. U6 snRNA serves as an essential component of the spliceosome, the molecular machinery responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells[1]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-226P are non-functional genomic copies, typically generated by retrotransposition events mediated by LINE retroelements, most commonly LINE-1 (L1); they lack the full functionality of the parent U6 snRNA gene because of accumulated mutations, truncations, or integration in non-transcribed regions[2][4]. The U6 pseudogenes do not participate in RNA splicing and are generally considered "genomic fossils" that typically serve no known biological function or drug target role, though they can be used as markers to study retrotransposon dynamics in the genome[2][4]. There is no evidence of interaction with drugs, biomarker potential, or involvement in any recognized disease process.
